Cold air intake worth it or just stock filter upgrade?
Want a bit more throttle response on my 1.4 TSI Polo without big mods. Thinking cold air intake kit, but they're pricey and can suck in hot engine bay air sometimes. Better to just get a better-flowing stock-style filter?

True cold air intakes help if they pull cooler outside air, but many cheap ones draw hot underhood air and hurt performance. For mild gains on a daily, a high-flow stock replacement filter in the original box is safer- no MAF issues, no CEL risk, easier install. I upgraded my filter only and noticed crisper response. Used one from https://elartcom.eu/categories/air-filters-24 - they offer performance paper filters and some cotton-gauze drop-ins for VW that increase flow slightly while keeping filtration good. Slotted right in, no mods needed, engine revs freer above 3k rpm. Kept the stock heat shield for cooler intake. Good compromise if you don't want full intake hassle. Check their category for your engine- decent selection without overpaying.
