Although the idea of a "big back" has historically been connected to strength and masculinity, cultural attitudes are shifting. Strong backs are likewise sought after by fitness-conscious women. Strength and physical growth are today embraced by people of all genders, and the term transcends gender boundaries. But how the statement is understood is still influenced by society norms; at times, big back meaning indicates empowerment, and at other times, it reduces it to superficial appearance.
